Like Marissa, I feel compelled to start taking pictures of the hometown I’ve grown up in for the past 26 years. There’s just so much my town — your town even — has to offer, and if you can capture it behind the lense of a camera you’ll learn to appreciate what you have/had.
So today, as I walking my dog around my neighborhood, I started shooting photos. Call it nostalgia or whatever, but these pictures serve as simple memories frozen in the sentimental part of my head. I’ll look back at the photos and remember who I am and where I came from.
I know there’s an Eastern Orthodox cathedral half a mile from my house with towering, gilded Kremlin-style domes that I want to photograph in the afternoon, so maybe that will be my next destination.
Think of me when you close your eyes But don’t look back when you break all ties Think of me when you’re coming down But don’t look back when leaving town today
Thanks to everyone for such a great weekend (my birthday and the Tumblr meetup). Spending time with awesome and interesting people certainly hasn’t made my decision about graduate school any easier, but I’m leaning less and less towards UIC after talking to a good number of great friends (plus being wait-listed doesn’t help). Right now, I’m looking for a job so I can start saving money and actually afford grad school, so I’ll keep you updated on that.
I know everyone’s kind of half joking about swine flu on Twitter, but this has me worried (and I have really damned good health insurance):
Dr. Damon T. Arnold, director of the Illinois Department of Public Health, said Monday the state remained “on full alert to watch for possible cases” even though laboratory tests of several suspected swine flu patients came back negative.
“This, however, is a rapidly evolving situation, and we fully expect to see cases in Illinois,” he said. “We are prepared to act swiftly to assure early detection and to respond in the event a case or cases are identified to limit its spread.”
Now that things are somewhat settled with grad school and that my birthday celebration/Tumblr Meetup are behind me (photos will be officially debuted once I get everything uploaded), it’s time I focus on some bigger art & design projects.
First of all, I’m gonna officially move Bluegoomba.com to Tumblr under this account. Next, Sausage-Fest.com will soon be GhostPotato.com (and that’ll mean new comics). Both of those sites will be completely redesigned under what aesthetic I’m into right now. I’ll probably focus on redesigning Indie Rawk Jeffro’s Indie Rawk Blog, too, so I don’t have to rely on pre-made templates.
Odd day today: while driving back home from a trip to TJ Maxx and Home Depot, I noticed 5 cop cars around a dumpster in Bloomingdale. Then, as I neared my house, a neighbor a few blocks away had his garage completely on fire.
