Retuta's Tumblr

The Visual and Written Chronicles of Phillip.

Who Be He?
They call him Phillip Retuta. He calls himself a visual & interactive designer, motion graphics artist, and illustrator -- an all-around artist. He's 29 years old, from Chicago, living in NYC, and has a lovely husky-lab mix named Nico. Currently employed as Senior Designer at a digital and social media firm.

What's All This Then?
Well, it's a fairly random tumblog of current and upcoming art endevours, photographs, comic sketches, creative philosophies, inspirations, and generally incomplete art projects.

So yeah, it's like a sketchbook.

In 2008, I was present in Chicago’s Grant Park to see Obama get elected (top photo). I was living in the suburbs that time, unemployed and stuck at home with my parents. But I had hope; hope to become successful and live in New York — that magical city I’ve read on personal blogs and seen on Flickr photostreams.

Tonight I was watching the election at a bar near my apartment in Brooklyn (bottom photo), and I realized that yes, hope and change and moving forward exists: I’m living the dream here in New York City, with a masters and a good paying job as a designer. Certainly, it’s been a struggle to get where I am (and yeah, even now I’m still struggling financially), but one thing that Obama’s election, life, rhetoric, and philosophy has taught me is that anything possible if you just pursue it and keep that hope alive.

Thanks, Mr. President.
