Who Be He?
They call him Phillip Retuta. He calls himself a visual & interactive designer, motion graphics artist, and illustrator -- an all-around artist. He's 28 years old, from Chicago, living in NYC, and has a lovely husky-lab mix named Nico.

What's All This Then?
Well, it's a fairly random tumblog of current and upcoming art endevours, photographs, comic sketches, creative philosophies, inspirations, and generally incomplete art projects.

So yeah, it's like a sketchbook.

The weather in NYC was shitty today — the wind, the cold, the rain, and the overall gloom — but this kinda makes up for it. Taken outside my office.
It feels like the climax of Ghostbusters. Gozer?

GPOYW IDEA/PROJECT TO THROW OUT THERE.
I’d appreciate it if some people out there on the interwebz would help me out with my first graduate program assignment. Essentially — using Photobooth, a webcam, DSLR, a point-and-shoot, etc. — send me a photo of yourself holding a sign of your favorite genre of music like these fellows. It’s basically a visual survey of people’s music tastes as well as a study on personal handwriting and typography.
For a more elaborate and rather wordy design brief:

For the first assignment in my Interface graduate class, I was asked to create a hierarchy (starting from me, to my particular class section, to the Design & Technology MFA program, to the Art and Media Technology school, to Parsons, to The New School, to Greenwich Village, to New York City) and map out a central theme. It’s supposed to organize collected data and consequently analyze our relationship with ourselves and the city as a whole. Ultimately, this map will allow us to identify any trends that may occur within a particular social schema. The theme and methodology that I chose revolve around photography and an individual’s favorite genre of music, and how such accommodations correlate with typography/handwriting, personal style, gender, and culture.

Some guidelines:
The sign must be handwritten — it’s supposed to be about handwriting and typography.
Send a link/attach your photo to this email: indierawkjeffro[at]gmail[dot]com.
Since I’m expanding this project to incorporate all of America/perhaps globally, tell me where you’re from… if you’re either at The New School, Greenwich Village, or NYC, even better!
(EDIT: The assignment was assigned last Friday, and is due this Friday. It doesn’t need to be a GPOYW photo, per se, just a photo of you with your favorite genre of music — nothing too fancy, either, unless you want it to be)
Thanks, guys!-pr.
